About Me:

I am a professional Pet Groomer. I have been grooming for 28 years. This Blog is a kind of diary of my work. I wish I had started years ago, writing some of the experiences I have had while grooming. Most days are fun, some can be sad, some can be just down right crazy. If you are a pet owner and come across this blog, I hope it helps you understand how your pet is groomed. If you are a Pet Groomer, I hope you can relate to some of the stories. Maybe even learn a grooming tip or can leave a friendly grooming tip for me. There is always something to learn, no matter how long you have been grooming.

Why???????

**Why won't owners take their dogs to the bathroom before they give them to me?...Especially on rainy days.

**Why is it, when you are already running behind, your customers decide to run late?...Not just a few minutes late, but 30-60 minutes late!

**Why do the owners with dogs that have nice coats, that you would love to scissor, always want them clipped short?

**Why do the owners whose dogs are Mexican jumping beans, want a hand scissor cut on their dog?

**Why is it so hard to get the owner of an elderly dog to pick up their dog as soon as it is finished? ...So I don't have to spend the rest of the day waking it up to make sure he/she is still breathing.

**Why does the doorbell and the phone ring at the exact same time?

**Why do nail jobs walk in the second I take the first bite of my sandwich?...Don't these people understand that I only have 3 minutes for lunch?

**Why do some people panic when their dog stays a little more then  couple hours, and other owners forget to pick up their dogs?...Especially when I have somewhere to be.

**Why do some people think I live at work?...Do they live at their job?

**Why, when my comb, brush, or nail clippers fall off of my table, can't they stay where they fall? ...Why do they have to bounce so that it takes me 5 minutes to find them?

**Why do I keep laying my comb, brush, and nail clippers on my table where they can be knocked off?

**Why do dogs wait until I reach back into the tub to pick up the hose to shake? ...When I just spent the last few minutes trying to get them to shake so I could step back away.

**Why do my feet hurt?

**Why do dogs let you carry them all the way across the room, and then when you start to lean down to put them into the kennel, they suddenly start flipping like a fish?

**Why does a blade suddenly act up when you are almost finished the dog?

**Why , no matter how you trim the bottom of the ear, no matter how many times you go over it, there is always one little patch of hair out of place or a little longer then the rest.

**Why do dogs have Anal glans? ...Does anyone truly know?

**Why do owners let their dogs pee in my lobby, on my wicker bench? ...Can I take my dog to their house?

**Why don't customers listen to anything I say?

**Why won't people neuter their dogs so I don't have a doggie porn show on my table?

**Why did God great undercoat?

**Why do I keep cutting my own fingers? ...You know, those little V cuts you make with your scissors.

**Why do I bother putting up signs, if people don't read them?

**Why do people buy long hair breeds only to shave them down to the skin? ...Never mind, I wouldn't have a job.

**Why do all of the white dogs come in on the same day? ...I can't see by the end of the day.

**Why do people always wait till I am almost finished a dog to interrupt me?

**Why is it when I call an owner to pick up the dog I just finished, I am told that someone is already on their way over? ...Do they have ESP?

**Why do dogs insist on shaking in front of their owners? ... Only to stop the second their owners are out of sight.

**Why don't people put leashes on their dogs? ...So I don't have to run outside to help them catch their dog after it jumped out of their car.

**Why do owners ever try to tell us that their matted dog just got that way last week? ...Do they really think we believe that?

**Why do I put up with it all? ...I love making the dogs feel good!!

  1. Nice post! Haha, I have the solutions for getting a dog to shake off in the bath on command instead of waiting- it works on all the dogs I've groomed.

What I do is tell the dog to 'shake off' in a fast, high pitched voice and then move my hand or head in a doggie shaking motion and that usually gets them to shake off most of the water.

For dogs that are deaf/blind or don't respond to that method, I lightly blow air in their face, down their back and on their tail. That gets them wiggling into a full blown water-tossing shake- so they don't surprise you by shaking off randomly and drenching you with doggie bathwater.
